For Academics, Researchers & University Leaders

Your research is measured. Your teaching, your mentoring, and your AI collaboration — now they can be too.

Three European certifications that document the full scope of academic excellence: from classroom innovation and professional mentoring to critical AI collaboration. Each recognised by the frameworks that define academic quality across Europe.

What's Not Measured in Academia

Excellence in three dimensions. Proof in none.

You are an academic. You teach because it matters — not because promotion dossiers value it equally with research output. You mentor junior researchers and help them navigate career choices. You work with AI as a research tool and integrate it thoughtfully into your practice.

And yet: when you compile a dossier for promotion, apply for a leadership role, or seek European partnership opportunities, what you submit is a CV with publications. Your mentoring is invisible. Your critical thinking about AI is unrecorded. The complexity of what you actually do remains implicit.

EASEC closes that gap. Not with badges that flatter — with three certifications aligned to the frameworks that define professional standards in higher education across Europe.

What you prove is what you already do — now at a defined level.

The evidence

68% → 23%

Universities reference teaching competency in ESG quality assurance. Only 23% of academic staff can provide structured, EQF-aligned evidence of theirs.

82%

Of mentor relationships in academia and research occur without any framework for documenting the mentor's competency level.

University Teaching Competency Certification

"Turn outstanding teaching into documented competence."

You teach well. Your students learn. The question isn't whether you're competent — it's whether you can demonstrate it with evidence that accreditation bodies and promotion committees actually recognise. 44-item psychometric assessment across 7 critical dimensions. Your result: a dimension-by-dimension profile at EQF level 5–8, directly usable in ESG-aligned quality assurance submissions.

Professional Mentoring Competency Certification

"Make your mentoring practice visible and measurable."

You mentor. It is often invisible work — crucial to the careers you shape, but undocumented in any formal sense. This certification evaluates your mentoring competency across relationship establishment, selective experience transfer, generative listening, goal management, professional transitions, and reflective practice. Grounded in Kram's developmental phases and the EMCC Global Mentoring Competency Framework.

Critical AI Collaboration Certification

"Document your critical thinking in an AI-enabled research and teaching environment."

This is not an IT certification. It evaluates the human competencies that make working with AI productive, responsible, and sustainable: critical understanding of what these systems do and don't do reliably, purposeful prompt design, the ability to detect errors that sound convincing, ethical judgment, and accountability design in AI-augmented workflows. Aligned with EU AI Act Article 4, UNESCO, and OECD AI Principles.

Clarity on What Matters

"Questions academics ask most."

Every question is a signal. Here are the ones we hear most from academic staff — answered directly, without hedging.

7 questions answered

I already have a PhD in my discipline. What does teaching certification add?

Your PhD certifies you completed doctoral-level study. This certification certifies the level at which you currently demonstrate teaching competence in practice today — independent of your credentials. Many highly qualified academics operate at different competency levels across dimensions. For example, an expert in curriculum design may be developing in digital teaching or assessment. This certification makes that specificity visible — useful for self-awareness, institutional planning, promotion dossiers, and accreditation submissions.

Your experience is real and valuable — but invisible to promotion committees, mentoring programme leaders, and selection processes. Twenty years of excellent mentoring at N5 (expert level) produces the same institutional signal as N3 (competent level) if neither can be demonstrated. This certification converts your practice into a visible, specific, and portable credential — useful in promotion, programme leadership roles, and institutional talent development planning.

AI governance is institutional. This certification is individual competency. The EU AI Act's Article 4 requires organisations to evidence that staff have AI literacy — not just that the institution has policies. EASEC-AIC produces the psychometric evidence that satisfies this obligation. It is increasingly required by research funders, research councils, and institutions preparing for accreditation reviews or compliance audits.

They align with the frameworks your institution already uses: DigCompEdu (used by EU quality assurance bodies for academic teaching), EMCC Global (the standard for mentoring excellence), and OECD AI Principles (referenced in EU AI Act Article 4 compliance). The credentials are Europass Digital and Open Badge 3.0 — the EU's official standards for professional qualifications, recognised by all 27 member states and partner institutions.

No. There is no pass/fail threshold. You receive a full competency profile at whatever level your responses demonstrate. The assessment is designed to reveal your practice accurately — not to filter you out or gatekeep credentials.

Your credential is immediately usable across every dimension of your professional life:

  • Share on LinkedIn (Open Badge 3.0)
  • Include in promotion dossiers or Europass career profile
  • Present to your institution for accreditation or quality assurance records
  • Submit to institutional compliance officers (EU AI Act Article 4)
  • Use in European partnership applications
  • Include in CVs for international positions
Verification is instant at cert.easec.eu/certificates/verify

Retake is available after a minimum interval to allow genuine professional development. The three-year validity gives you time to improve and document growth — particularly useful for academics building comprehensive professional development records or preparing for promotion cycles.

Time to Document Your Excellence

"Your practice is complex. Your credentials should be too."

Three certifications. One framework. The same standards that define academic excellence across Europe. You already have the expertise — these assessments simply make it visible, measurable, and portable. No courses. No prerequisites. Just your practice, assessed against European standards, resulting in credentials your institution and European partners can verify instantly.
