Your PhD certifies you completed doctoral-level study. This certification certifies the level at which you currently demonstrate teaching competence in practice today — independent of your credentials. Many highly qualified academics operate at different competency levels across dimensions. For example, an expert in curriculum design may be developing in digital teaching or assessment. This certification makes that specificity visible — useful for self-awareness, institutional planning, promotion dossiers, and accreditation submissions.
I've been mentoring for 15+ years informally. Why would I need a certificate?
Your experience is real and valuable — but invisible to promotion committees, mentoring programme leaders, and selection processes. Twenty years of excellent mentoring at N5 (expert level) produces the same institutional signal as N3 (competent level) if neither can be demonstrated. This certification converts your practice into a visible, specific, and portable credential — useful in promotion, programme leadership roles, and institutional talent development planning.
My institution already has an AI governance framework. Is this certification necessary?
AI governance is institutional. This certification is individual competency. The EU AI Act's Article 4 requires organisations to evidence that staff have AI literacy — not just that the institution has policies. EASEC-AIC produces the psychometric evidence that satisfies this obligation. It is increasingly required by research funders, research councils, and institutions preparing for accreditation reviews or compliance audits.
Will my institution recognise these certifications?
They align with the frameworks your institution already uses: DigCompEdu (used by EU quality assurance bodies for academic teaching), EMCC Global (the standard for mentoring excellence), and OECD AI Principles (referenced in EU AI Act Article 4 compliance). The credentials are Europass Digital and Open Badge 3.0 — the EU's official standards for professional qualifications, recognised by all 27 member states and partner institutions.
Can I fail?
No. There is no pass/fail threshold. You receive a full competency profile at whatever level your responses demonstrate. The assessment is designed to reveal your practice accurately — not to filter you out or gatekeep credentials.
